  Protecting Leather Lounge Furniture

Before actually purchasing a piece of leather lounge furniture whether it is a chair, a sofa, a recliner or a simple bean bag chair, it is important that you know how to maintain it and make it last long with good care.  It is important to take good care of leather furniture as it’s made from a natural material and responds to environment and can deteriorate and lose its shape if not preserved.

If properly cared for, leather furniture can thrive and remain as beautiful and elegant as it was brought yesterday. However, proper care and protecting it from daily wear and tear and elements is must.

Tips on Protecting Leather Lounge Furniture
Here are some tips on how you can protect your leather lounge furniture and make it last for a long time retaining its good looks and splendor.

Keep it away from sun
Sun and leather furniture do not go together as leather is animal skin and if left in the sun unattended for long hours, it can shrivel up and lose its color, shine and shape and even make it crack. If you want to make the leather lounge furniture shine, go for artificial lighting instead of sunlight.

Keep it away from quick temperature shifts
It is very important to remember that leather is skin even though it’s being used for furniture making. Even when used as upholstery, leather will react to temperatures, in hot and cold weathers, leather will respond accordingly and too much high temperature might adversely affect it.

Keep leather furniture pieces away from places where the temperatures shift quickly, such as in front of the heater or air conditioner.

Don’t mess with leather furniture
Being a natural material, leather contains oil in it. The trick is to maintain the oil level in leather as it cannot regenerate natural oils once they evaporate. Thus, avoid using oil based soaps and cleaners that may leave too much oil in the piece or soap or detergent cleaners, as they could take the oils out of the leather.

Losing the natural oils in leather can speed up the drying and cracking process which can shorten the life of your furniture.

When you buy leather lounge furniture, it is advised that you use a leather protector that will prevent spills from seeping into the piece and getting soaked by the leather which causes stains and lumps.  It is much easier to prevent the spills and dirt rather than cleaning them afterwards.
